Shares Rise Amid Profit-Taking

The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange composite index edged up 3.04 to 1126.40 on volume of 308.6 million shares. Advancers led decliners 297 to 224, with 168 issues unchanged. The broader Emas Index edged up 1.41 to 326.44. The Second Board Index of smaller shares added 2.43 to 504.07. While there was talk in Singapore that Malaysia was having political problems because of a local conflict between party members in the Islamic state of Kelantan, local analysts discounted the conflict. AMMB Holdings rose 25 sen to 32.25 ringgit, while Cycle & Carriage Bintang added 10 sen to 17 ringgit.
