U.S. Bond Yield Boosts Index

The Merval Index of leading shares rose 17.13 to 514.64, after declining 2.86 Monday. The broad General Index gained 481.64 to 15934.12. Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones 39 to 10, while 15 settled the session unchanged. Volume in floor trading totaled 13.18 million pesos, while turnover on the computer-based market reached 71.00 million pesos near the end of its session. Stocks rose across the board. Telefonica, which announced it will inject $40 million into one of its cellular-phone divisions, jumped 14 cents, or 6.1%, to 2.43 pesos. Sevel surged 13 cents, or 6.5%, to 2.12 pesos. YPF rose 70 cents, or 3.4%, to 21.55 pesos.
