Stocks Are Little Changed

The Sao Paulo Stock Exchange rose 44 points to 63,528 on the Bovespa Index, from 63,484 Thursday. The Rio de Janeiro Stock Exchange gained 96 to 23,315. Of the 50 stocks making up the Bovespa Index, 18 were higher, 22 were lower, 9 were unchanged and 1 wasn't traded. Trading volume was 510 million reals, up from 406 million reals on Wednesday. The government's telephone holding company, Telebras, slipped 0.1 point to 76.80 reals per thousand shares, while subsidiary Telesp was unchanged at 193 reals per thousand shares. Another subsidiary, Telepar, was up 3 points to 438 reals per thousand shares. Cemig edged up 0.5 point to 32 reals per thousand shares. Light gained 0.5 point to 278.50 reals per thousand shares. Federal oil company Petrobras gained 3 points to 126.50 reals per thousand shares. The government's mining giant Vale do Rio Doce fell 0.2 point to 18.70 reals per single share. Preferred shares of government-run electric holding company Eletrobras gained 1 point to 286 reals per thousand shares, while its common shares rose 2 points to 276 reals per thousand shares.
