Megawati Case Boosts Market

The Jakarta Stock Exchange Index edged up 2.081 to 544.282 on volume of 111.8 million shares. Advancers led decliners 49 to 47 with 39 shares unchanged. Ms. Dawson had filed a lawsuit against the Indonesia's minister of domestic affairs, defense minister and the new leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party Suryadi, alleging that they illegally removed her as the PDI's leader. However, Ms. Dawson's willingness to resolve the case amicably allayed any fears of more riots resulting from the court proceedings, which boosted the market, analysts said. Politically sensitive stocks gained. Bimantara Citra rose 175 rupiah to 2,175.
