Americas Markets Are Quiet With U.S. Markets Closed

The Mexican stock exchange was open, but stocks were flat as traders and investors informally observed the U.S. holiday. Brazilian stocks fell slightly, but traders said fundamentals were strong enough to spark a mild gain later in the day. In dollar terms, the Americas sector of the Dow Jones World Stock Index was unchanged at 153.03 at noon EDT Monday, after falling 1.20 on Friday. The world index as whole was down 0.18 to 136.85, after stumbling 1.24 on Friday. At midmorning, industrial-technology and life-insurance shares led the Dow Jones Global Industry Groups, while plantations and shipbuilding issues were the weakest groups.
