Americas Stocks End Mixed; Profit-Taking Hurts Mexico

Mexican shares fell on a rash of profit-taking after rallies last week set a new high. Canadian stock prices rose, led by interest in the gold and forest products sectors and greater optimism about underlying commodity prices. In Brazil, share prices posted losses as options expirations fell due in a trading session with no surprises. All financial markets, banks and government offices were closed in Argentina for a national holiday. In dollar terms, the Americas sector of the Dow Jones World Stock Index rose 0.27 to 155.73 Monday, after gaining 0.64 Friday. The world index as whole gained 0.18 to 139.11, adding to Friday's gain of 0.24. Fishing and securities-brokerage issues led the Dow Jones Global Industry Groups, while entertainment and casino shares were among the laggers.
