USA Today's Staged Photo Is Anything but Good News

The photograph on the front page of Wednesday's USA Today was an eye-grabber: a pretty schoolgirl snorting drugs from a pile of textbooks in her locker. ``Teens and Drugs'' read the headline accompanying a story about rising teenage drug use. What many readers didn't notice was the credit line in small print beneath the picture: ``Photo illustration.'' In fact, the color photo was a posed shot, whose props included an innocent white powder as a stand-in for illicit drugs, although it can't be seen in the photo. The USA Today photo
