Stocks Remain Mixed In Americas Region

Brazilian stocks rose in a correction following two days of sharp falls. Mexican shares slipped in profit-taking after Thursday's 2.5% advance. Canadian stocks were flat in moderate trading. Argentine stocks increased slightly in cautious trading. In dollar terms, the Americas sector of the Dow Jones World Stock Index was down 1.31 to 149.04 at 2 p.m. EDT, after gaining 2.33 the previous day. The world index as a whole was down 0.3 to 136.43, after gaining 1.42 Thursday. Mining and precious metal shares led the Dow Jones Global Industry Groups, while consumer services and software were among the laggers.
